Running Towards Hope

Story

                  Running for Mental Health!

It's no secret that like millions of people throughout Australia, I struggle every day with Mental Illness. I have experienced first hand how the lack of research and knowledge on many illnesses inhibits diagnosis and treatment for so many. Honestly it is horrible how some people I know, and even myself at times, have been treated due to the lack of understanding of what we are going through. The research being conducted at MAPrc is some of the only of its kind and it gives me a hope for a future of better treatments and less suffering.

Throughout my illnesses, keeping myself physically fit and especially running, has been a sort of therapy and has helped me recover many times over from tough times. That is why I am now passionate about raising money for mental health research AND the effect that physical fitness\running has on recovery so this run really sits close to my heart.

It would mean the world to me if you could contribute as much as you can towards a better future for me and millions of others, anything helps and every dollar will motivate me as I continue to run towards hope.

Much love,

Simone :)

-----Mental illness remains one of the most complex and challenging areas of health practice.  It affects one in five Australians.
1/3 of people with mental illness do not respond to standard treatments.  For these individuals there are limited treatment options.

This event raises awareness and understanding of mental illnesses such depression, bipolar and schizophrenia.  It also aims to raises funds to help find new treatments for these debilitating illnesses.

Please support me and this event by making a donation.  All proceeds are given to the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc) who research innovative new treatments, discover new diagnostic tools and improve service delivery for people with mental illness.

By supporting this event, you can help mend minds!
