Run for Mental Health!
Mum and I (aka team 'Daughter & Mother' = 'D&M') will be taking part in the De Castella Run 2 Mend Minds this year!
Mental illness is an issue that is particularly close to our hearts. Despite affecting one in five Australians, mental illness remains one of the most complex and challenging areas of health practice. 1/3 of people with mental illness do not respond to standard treatments. For these individuals there are limited treatment options. We have seen first hand, the devastating toll mental illness can and has taken on loved ones and so many individuals... which has spurred us to make a difference!
This event not only raises awareness and understanding of mental illnesses such depression, anxiety, bipolar and schizophrenia. It also aims to raise funds to help find new treatments for these debilitating illnesses. All proceeds are given to the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc) which research innovative new treatments, discover new diagnostic tools and improve service delivery for people with mental illness. This year, all funds raised from this event will go towards funding PhD scholarships in mental health research.

The Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc) is an innovative and dynamic clinical research centre based at The Alfred Hospital and affiliated with Monash University, that strives to develop innovative new treatments and a better understanding of mental illnesses including schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder and autism.
MAPrc pioneers new applications and treatments for severe mental illnesses. By drawing upon novel technological advances and alliances with other disciplines, MAPrc cultivates a ‘new thinking' approach to improve current treatment options for consumers of psychiatry.
